I studied organic technology, but most of my career I spent with organic mass spectrometry. I head the Laboratory of Molecular Structure Characterization at the Institute of Microbiology (Prague, Czech Republic), which houses microbiology, mass spectrometry, nuclear magnetic resonance, and electron microscopy groups. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, our group developed the Infection Metallomics Toolkit, which enables the description of biological and microbiological phenomena at the molecular level. From microbial physiology, I am now focusing my studies in immunology, critical care medicine, and medical microbiology, constantly supporting these fields with state-of-the-art analytical chemistry. In 2022, I received a four-month sabbatical training in analytical chemistry and host-pathogen interactions from K.A. Schug (UTA, Texas) and D.A. Stevens (CIMR, California). With several department chairs at Stanford (CA, USA), I shaped our infection metallomics strategy, which now exploits host-microbe consortia interactions moderated by antimicrobial therapies in the lung, central nervous system, and urogenital infections. Concurrently, I have taught courses for Palacky University in Olomouc and Charles University in Prague (clinical mass spectrometry, publication ethics, literature resources, analytical chemistry, and intellectual property rights). In 2012, I received the pedagogical degree of professor (Analytical Chemistry, Palacky University, Olomouc). In 2020, I finished my analytical period by publishing a textbook on mass spectrometry (Chemicke Listy, Feb and Mar 2020 issues). Six of my Ph.D. students have completed their studies in the past decade.
